Having a baby is quite the education. Having a baby who can move on her own is quite dangerous. What was once my curated, trinket- and furniture-filled apartment is now a disheveled obstacle course designed to keep my daughter alive. We’ve been making it so far but she’s getting stronger and smarter and our old tricks aren’t working as well. Since we have to make some changes in the near future, I’ve been thinking about a new look for the whole place. When we first moved here, I had only just started getting interested in interior design. There are a lot of different colors and ideas stuffed into this apartment and I felt like I needed to display every single thing we owned.
My early attempts at decorating:
Our place doesn’t really look like this anymore. As I’ve gotten older and more confident, the explosion of ideas has been slowly tamed. I still have a weakness for styling shelves and layering ideas but I’m starting to want something more cohesive. Not neutral per se, I do love color, but I want a bit more order. A softer, more classic look. If redecorating made any kind of sense right now, here are some ideas I’d love to implement:
Soft Blues and Grays
Stripes and Lines
So we’ll see what I can do with what we already have. It’s taken a while for me to learn that we don’t have to final aesthetic this early in our lives together. We still have plenty of moves and an unknown number of kids in our future so I’m content to take my time on this one.
