The Curated Life: Sunday Best

So I had to speak in church today and though I couldn’t be more relieved that it’s over, I actually am grateful I got to do it. This past week was rough. Like more than the regular rough that usually comes with small children. Ella and Jack were both sick, Jack was cutting his second tooth, and Matthew had to go out of town at the last minute. And even though I had this extra obligation of preparing a message to share with the congregation, it did end up being a blessing.

I had to speak on service and I won’t copy the entire talk here, but I spoke about how in order to sincerely serve others, we need to love them. We can see service opportunities as opportunities to love. Everyone is busy, everyone is stretched for time, everyone is probably tired, and everyone can’t do everything. But everyone, anyone, can serve. We all can work harder to love each other. That is the power of service, of charity. There are real blessings to be had and real good to be done, if we would only serve and love each other. Service is universal; we all need it and we all can give it. I know that we live in a time of division and turmoil and my hope is that service can unite us.

Happy Sunday, everybody.
