Happy Mother’s Day!

Motherhood is the hardest and best education I have ever had. I’ve learned more about life, Heavenly Father, and myself in the last four and a half years than you would think could fit in my exhausted brain. It’s been more painful than I thought it would be and more glorious, too. Motherhood feels like there’s an earthquake every few days, there are all these changes and shifts. But you don’t become this scared, shaky person–no, you learn to face the change and appreciate it for creating space for growth.

Ella has been a real lesson in perseverance and contradictions. She is the girl of my dreams and nothing about the trials we have faced together could ever change that. I’m tougher than I thought, tougher than I was before her. But I’m softer too.

Jack has taught me so much and given me so much– I don’t think I was ever truly confident until after he was born. There was a moment and he was around 6 months old and I realized I had stopped dreading taking care of him and his sister by myself. That night, I wrote the first blog post for The Curated Kids, not even realizing I was taking a chance on myself.

In motherhood, in life actually, there are constant mountains to climb but I’m starting to love them because I can see them for what they are. Every cut and scrape is a token you take with you; a lesson, a piece of knowledge you couldn’t have gained any other way. You don’t get to the top of the mountain without them. You can’t get there without them. So here’s to all of you, moms and children alike, and to the tops of the all the mountains in your path.

Happy Sunday, everybody.
