I heard a lot of thoughtful messages at church today and one in particular has stuck with me. The first and greatest commandment is to love God. And the way we show our love for God is by following the second great commandment: love thy neighbor as thyself. When we serve each other, forgive each other, support each other– we show our love for God. He wants us to love His children. And you must not forget that you are His child too. For some people, it’s easier to serve others, forgive others, support others. But the assumption in “love thy neighbor as thyself” is that you love yourself too. It’s the third unspoken, implied commandment. Take care of yourself, forgive yourself, support and love yourself.
