I’ve been putting the finishing touches on the kids’ rooms this week and it has been so much fun. Their spaces are my favorite in our home– they’re whimsical and joyful, displaying all the best bits of childhood and their big personalities.
You want to know an easy way to create this type of decor? Shelves! I love styling shelves- bookshelves, mantles, floating shelves, you name it. They are versatile and easy to change around as the seasons or your style preferences change. Here are my favorite kids shelf decor ideas:
Well you have to have books on your bookshelves! Cute books are a great way to showcase your little one’s interests without taking over the entire room. Make sure to stack them differently- some facing outward (your favorites!), some laying horizontally with a trinket or two on top, etc. Scroll through some of our family favorites below:
Of course, not all of the books that find their way into our homes are cute. What to do with them? Well I like to find cute baskets for the books that are a little more beat up or can’t stand on their own. It’s functional and stylish.
I love to incorporate toys onto kids’ shelves. This is where that whimsy comes in! Stuffed animals and wooden toys make the reading area more of a play space and I think it gets more use. And looks darling!
As for trinkets, I love to use small decorative accessories like animal figurines, letters, boxes, and globes. It’s fun to go around the house and collect treasures and try different things until you land on a combination you love.
Sentimental touches bring heart to a child’s room. Photographs, their framed artwork, meaningful prints, or (my personal favorite) monogrammed decor make the space more personal.
